Venus Transit - Time of Love, War and Change

On the night of June 5th into the morning of the 6th, Venus-Goddess of Love, will transit across the face of the Sun. This event last happened in 1882 and will not happen again until 2117. These events come in pairs roughly eight years apart. The first part of the current pair occurred in 2004. With all of the interest in the Mayan Calendar and its relationship to 2012, this astral occurrence is of particular importance both for the rarity of it and the potential impact that it may have on the months ahead.

The Maya focused much of their attention of the movement of Venus and, in fact, charted the entire 584 day cycle of the planet as it made its way across the heavens. Known as both the Morning Star and the Evening Star, Venus was viewed as triumphing over both the Sun and Moon because of the planet's continued visibility in the transitions of day to night and vice versa. The Mayan culture viewed the planet we associate with love and romance in an entirely different light; that being violence, war and human sacrifice.

Perhaps the most feared time in Mayan astrological forecasts was the Heliacal Rising of Venus: the time when Venus is on our side of the sun (known as the Inferior Conjunction) and transits between Old Sol and Earth and which is also the start of its next cycle of movement. To those ancients of Mesoamerica, this was a highly evil portent and denoted the onset of wars and conflicts.

Even in western traditions, Venus was not just a gentle entity embodying love and romance. Immortalized by Homer, Venus was involved in a long running affair with Mars, the God of War, mother to Eros, Deimous (representing Fear) and Phobus (meaning Panic). Even her earlier incarnation as the Greek Aphrodite mirrored her power to cause chaos, after all, it was the beauty pageant between Aphrodite, Her and Athene (which Aphrodite won) that caused the Trojan War.

Venus transits seem to announce a shift in consciousness on a global scale. In a literal sense a war between the past and outmoded thoughts and a future that will not be denied. One has but to look at history to see examples of these seismic shifts in consciousness. In the period of 1518-26, the Reformation swept across Europe along with, not surprisingly the ascent of a collection of powerful female rulers such as Catherine de Medici.

1631-39 saw the rise of rationalism and science across the globe; 1761-69 found the seeds of what would be the American Revolution starting to grow; 1874-82 saw an explosion in global communications (and transmission of ideas) from the telephone to the first Atlantic Cable. Parenthetically, the divine feminine (also emphasized by Venus) came into play again as women's suffrage began to take effect both here and abroad.

The tumultuous series of events across the globe since 2004, the last transit of Venus, is too numerous to mention here. The increased role of the divine feminine in all walks of life is further proof of the Venusian influence. When combined with the other astrological events of recent weeks, it appears that things seem to be building to some kind of penultimate result and with the June 6 date on the horizon, astrologers and psychics alike are focusing on the potential impacts which may result as the Goddess of Love makes her transit and begins her cycle anew.
